CUC Cooling Water Pipeline
General Information
This project involved the construction of a temporary causeway into the waters of the North Sound, installation of a 36” Diameter HDPE Pipe, valves & fittings both on land and into the North Sound, hydraulic air pressure testing of the installed pipe. The pipeline runs from the east end of the CUC compound into the North Sound.
A fill causeway had to be constructed approximately 300’ into the ocean to assist with the accurate sinking of the HDPE pipe and specialized discharge nozzle. Works entailed the use of a tug and barge as well as engaging commercial divers. Careful monitoring of silt and sedimentation migration was done daily ensuring the waters on the North Sound were never contaminated. Bringing a wealth of experience in civil works construction, McAlpine was able to assist the client with value engineering of the initial design to help save the client approximately $2 million dollars.
