Cayman Islands Hospital Complex
General Information
This 123-bed hospital was built in phases over a 30-month period around a 50-year-old facility which was progressively demolished. The greatest challenge met was to keep the hospital functioning and to provide uninterrupted services while minimizing noise and pollution to staff and patients.
All traditional medical facilities are provided for, including three operating theatres, laboratories, X-ray and scanning facilities built to the highest and most modern standards. The new complex consists of nine, mainly two-storey buildings set amongst landscaped gardens. The structures are all of reinforced concrete, designed to the latest Dade County (FLA) hurricane standards. The air conditioned facility is provided with a 1 mega-watt standby generator to assure uninterrupted operation during power outages.
